Setup and Experiment
Instructions for
Fixed Device: Linux
Mobile Device: Android
Overview of Tasks:
1. Download and run transmit beacon script on
your fixed device
2. Install the Android app on your mobile device
3. Perform the experiments as per the
instructions in the video attached towards the
end
1. Download the transmit_beacon.sh script
download link
2. Navigate to your “Downloads” folder
3. Run “transmit_beacon.sh” to transmit
beacons (requires sudo access).
The script will determine if your hardware
supports BLE advertisements, and if does it
will print BLE beacon TX started on the
terminal
sudo bash transmit_beacon.sh
cd /path/to/DownloadsFolder
BLE beacon TX started, press
Ctrl+C to stop beacon TX
Set up Fixed Device
Download .apk file (download link,
alternately scan the QR code above)
Tap “Install
Android App Installation (1)
Tap “Allow from this source” if you are
installing via the QR code, otherwise
continue ahead
Android App Installation (2)
Tap “Install Anyway” and “Don’t
Send” in the subsequent window
Android App Installation (3)
Continue to “Open” the app.
Android App Installation (4)
Set up mobile device (1)
Open the app you just installed on your
mobile device
Ensure Bluetooth is turned on
Tap “Use your phone as mobile
device
Select transmitter device name in drop
down.
The device name would be “BluBLE
Transmit Script: Linux”
Set up mobile device (2)
Tap “Start Experiments
Please follow in-app instructions to
complete the experiments or see video
in the next slide for any clarifications.

Troubleshooting and
Uninstalling the app
If there is some issue with data collection of any
experiments, you can redo the experiments by
clicking the ‘Delete Experiment Data’ button
After the 4 experiments have been completed,
you can go ahead and uninstall the app.
