Setup and Experiment
Instructions for
Fixed Device: Mac
Mobile Device: Android
Overview of Tasks:
1. Download and run transmit beacon script on
your fixed device
2. Install the Android app on your mobile device
3. Perform the experiments as per the
instructions in the video attached towards the
end
1. Navigate to your “Downloads” folder
2. Run “mac_transmit.sh” to transmit
beacons.
The script will print the following to indicate
that beacon transmission has started
successfully
bash mac_transmit.sh
cd /path/to/DownloadsFolder
Set up Fixed Device (2)
Installing <mbeacon>
Updating Homebrew...
Transmitting beacons now, press <ctrl> + c
to exit
Locate <Mac Device> in the device list on
the Android/iOS application
● Tap “Allow from this source” if you are
installing via the QR code, otherwise
continue ahead
Android App Installation (2)
● Tap “Install Anyway” and “Don’t
Send” in the subsequent window

● Continue to “Open” the app.

Set up mobile device (1)
● Open the app you just installed on your
mobile device
● Ensure Bluetooth is turned on
● Tap “Use your phone as mobile
device”
● Select transmitter device name in drop
down.
● The device name would be “BluBLE

Set up mobile device (2)
● Tap “Start Experiments”
Please follow in-app instructions to
complete the experiments or see video
in the next slide for any clarifications.

Troubleshooting and
Uninstalling the app
● If there is some issue with data collection of any
experiments, you can redo the experiments by
clicking the ‘Delete Experiment Data’ button
● After the 4 experiments have been completed,
you can go ahead and uninstall the app.
